Adult Mental Health First Aid

What is Mental Health First Aid?

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an evidence-based training that teaches individuals how to recognize the signs of mental health and substance use challenges, provide initial support, and connect individuals to appropriate care. Participants learn and apply the Mental Health First Aid Action Plan (ALGEE), a practical, step-by-step approach to responding in real-life situations.

  • Adults who work with, live with, or support youth (ages 12–18)

  • How to respond to adolescents in distress

  • How to support early intervention using the MHFA Action Plan (ALGEE)
